Musical programming is not for everybody. I think it is possible to understand music, but it is very difficult because people are looking for patterns and meaning in everything they listen to. For example, if you listen to someone playing their guitar or singing, they may repeatedly play two notes that sound similar; but what the musician really wants you to hear is that this makes up one note. It can be difficult for people who haven't had any musical training before because it isn't like reading a book where the meaning of words corresponds with their pronunciation. Learning how music works requires understanding concepts like rhythm and meter which can be tricky when you don't know how they work without having had even the slightest bit of musical training before. My thinking is that music works like language; it is basically the sub-consciousness of art. Most people who don't like music or think that they can't understand it probably just need help with listening to it. I think that, compared to the other genres, people who don't like classical music are also less likely to appreciate other genres. For example, many people who enjoy rock music also enjoy Indian Classical Music simply because it doesn't have any complicated concepts. I think one of the reasons why so many people don't study classical music or opera is because there aren't many commercial opportunities to become a professional musician. This is a real problem because classical music is one of the few art forms that have a million-dollar annual revenue. I think there are many reasons why people don't understand how classical music works. For example, when you don't understand the rules of a language or grammar, you may think that it's not correct to use certain words in particular ways, but when you analyze what the words mean in context it makes sense to use them in a sentence. Similarly, I think it's hard for people to understand why a musician who knows music understands how pieces work together, and yet people who only hear the final pieces without understanding how they work together don't appreciate classical music. I think this is because people with no musical training just hear the final product, and not necessarily how it came together. I think the main reason why people don't understand how classical music works is because their minds can't adapt to understanding complex concepts without any training in them. Most people who don't understand classical music are used to listening to popular songs, so they can't adapt to understanding complicated concepts in music. If someone was saving up for a piano when they were a child, but their parents didn't support them because it wasn't "cool", then they would have missed out on a wonderful career that would have helped them make more money and improve their financial situation. I think people who don't like classical music or opera are used to listening to pop singers or rappers without understanding how their music works, so they can't appreciate the complexity of classical music. I think this is because popular songs are easy to understand because their lyrics follow simple patterns. This is why I think people who love rock music also love Indian classical music, because there isn't much complexity in the rhythms. It's important for people to realize that art forms, including musical genres, have multiple meanings that may not always be understood by the average listener. eccc085e13
